Luis Ernesto Mesa

Luis Mesa is an award-winning Mexican composer and instrumentalist. He received the National Prize for Musical Composition in 2021 for “Four Independentist Murals” and two “Julian Carrillo” Prizes in 2023 and 2020 for “Transatlantic” and “New Huastec Suite”, respectively. His works have been performed by various ensembles and orchestras in North and South America, as well as in Europe.
As a young talent and a leading figure in his country, Mesa began his master’s degree in music composition at the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2023, studying with acclaimed composers Edmund Finnis and Rubens Askenar.
Luis Mesa has been awarded in 2023 with the most important scholarship in Mexico by the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (CONAHCYT in Spanish) for the support of professionals in the arts and culture for postgraduate studies abroad. This scholarship has enabled him to further his studies at the Royal Academy of Music.
In 2024, Mesa joined the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico (SACM), furthering the reach of his work and becoming one of the youngest members of the organization.
Within Luis Mesa’s work there are distinctive traits that reflect the cultural influences he has inherited along with a broad experience and mastery of traditional and modern systems of musical composition. His artistic approaches seek to address the deep questions of life, showing a strong commitment to learning, experience and personal growth.
